How to Cope with Eye Swelling


Swollen eyes after waking can be caused by several things. One reason is the sleep position. Sleeping with your head elevated can not make the fluid accumulates under the eyes. Conversely, if the head slightly propped up by placing a pillow under your head will allow the force of gravity to pull fluid from the eye naturally.

In addition to its sleeping position, eye swelling can also be influenced by sleep duration. Get enough sleep not only helps the body to function properly, but also affects the level of inflammation in the body. When not getting enough sleep, the blood vessels under the eyes will dilate and closer to the surface so that it looks more swollen.

Here are tips on how to overcome so that the eyes are not puffy when I wake up:

1.Cold compresses to the eye area as a whole for a few minutes after waking. To mengompresnya can use cucumber slices, cloth, cotton or a wet tea bag which serves to constrict blood vessels.

2.Give a gentle pressure on the bone around the eye as when compressed, this will encourage circulation and help reduce excess fluid.

3.If the eyes are swollen from eating salty foods at night, then drink water when you wake up can help reduce eye puffiness.

4.Try to sleep enough and using pillows to help prop up the head so as to prevent accumulation of fluid around the eyes during sleep.

5.If the eyes are swollen due to allergy to something, then identify the allergens. Allergies can be caused by soaps, cosmetics or certain medications.

Limiting consumption of foods rich in sodium and alcohol to avoid puffy eyes. This is because food is too salty or high sodium causes the body to retain water thereby triggering an inflamed eye. Meanwhile, alcohol acts as a beverage that lead to dehydration so make the skin under the eyes feel much thinner. This causes fluid to accumulate more visible and appear more swollen.
